Dear Nederland–area Artists and Artisans,

The Carousel of Happiness (COH) will open in downtown Nederland on
Memorial Day Weekend, 2010!

The COH is a hybrid of old and new: 1910 Looff carousel frame and
motor from Saltair Park in Utah and Scott Harrison’s hand-carved
wooden animals, large and small.  2010 is incidentally the hundredth
year anniversary of our 1910 Looff.  We’d like the Carousel Shop to
feature local Nederland-area artists and artisans.  To that end, the
Carousel Shop sub-committee invites you to think about what sort of
items you make or could make for sale at the Carousel of Happiness
Shop.  The sub-committee meets every other Tuesday, 1:30 to 3 pm at
the community room of the Buffalo Bill traincars, nextdoor to the COH.
Call or email Carousel Shop committee chairperson Lysa at
303-258-2455 or 303-258-3457,  <lark1230@aol.com>,  or Ellen at
303-258-9246,  <evmmoore@gmail.com> .

Please give us a call with your ideas, and to make an appointment to
share your artwork/crafts with the committee.  Our preference is for
locally made products, Colorado products, green-made products,
recyclable and recycled items, and products wholly made in the USA.
The carousel and the shop will strive not be in competition with
merchants and artists already operating in Nederland, so we will favor
items with a carousel connection: animals, fairies and other fanciful
creatures, and old timey toys and collectibles.  Your concerns and
suggestions are most welcome always, but especially as we take the
early steps to stock the Carousel Shop.  Please share this message
with other local artists and ask them to contact us with their email
and/or mailing addresses.

While we do not know exactly the space constraints of the carousel
building, items that we have already identified as ones we should
stock are:

Patches
cards and postcards
Shopping bags
Hand and finger puppets
Posters
Small framed photographs
Kites
Hats, animal hats, animal masks, bonnets, and baseball caps
T-shirts, sweat shirts and ponchos
Wands and wings
COH books and coloring books
Small musical instruments [whistles, flutes, harmonicas, kazoos]
Umbrellas/parasols
COH mugs, glasses, car coffee cups, sippy cups
COH Commemorative 18 month calendar [July 2010 – Dec 2011]
Toy traincars and carousel/carnival cars
Carousel, animal, and fairy jewelry
COH identified pens, pencils, brass rings, keyrings
CDs of our band organ music
Handmade children’s costumes, vests, knits
Snowglobes and miniature carousels
Old-timey toys: pull toys, hoop and stick, yoyos, paperdolls, hobby
horses, rocking horses

We look forward to hearing from you soon.

Sincerely,

Ellen V Moore
for the Carousel of Happiness Shop sub-committee
